WBCS 2020 Application Fee:

Rs.210/- + Service Charge 1% of Examination Fee subject to a minimum of Rs.5/-  for online payment through debit/credit card plus service charge /GST as applicable as Govt. Duty or Service Charge of Rs.5/- Net Banking or Service Charge of Rs.20/- only for payment through Bank Counter (off-line payment).

WBCS 2020 Age Limit

  • The candidate must be below 36 years and above 21 years of age.
    Note- On the 1st January of the year of examination
  • Those candidates whose date of birth lies between the 1st Jan 1999 & the 1st Jan 2000 [i.e.aspirants whose age is between 20 & 21 years as on 1st Jan 2020] may apply for Group B only.

WBCS 2020 Age Limit Relaxation 


The upper age limit is relaxable for S.C., S.T. & B.C. (Non-Creamy Layer) candidates of West Bengal, by 5 years for S.C. & S.T. candidates and by 3 years for B.C. (Non-Creamy Layer)candidates. In the case of Persons with Disabilities (PWD), the upper age limit is relaxable upto 45 years. S.C./S.T./B.C. candidates of other States shall be treated as general candidates.


WBCS 2020 Vacancies 


Total number of vacancies is not mentioned in the official WBCS notification 2020. The WBCS exam 2020 will be conducted for six Group A services including WBCS, West Bengal Police Service Group B service, nine Group C services and three Group D services. Candidates can apply for multiple services notified by the commission.

WBCS 2020 Eligibility Criteria


  • Candidate must have completed the graduation or any other equivalent three years’ degree from a recognized University.
  • Ability to read, write and speak in Bengali
  • The lower age limit should be 21 years,
  • The Upper age limit should be 36 years for Group A, B & C, 39 years for Group D
  • Relaxation in upper age limit will be given to the SC, ST, OBC, Physically Handicapped (PH), Ex-serviceman Govt Employees (Central and States) candidates.
  • Age will be calculated on 1st January of the year of the Exam.

WBCS Scheme of Exam


WBCS is a two-stage examination process. While stage I is the written examination, stage II will be the personality test. The written examination is again divided into two phases - Preliminary and Mains Exam.

WBCS Prelims exam is primarily a screening test that is designed to shortlist candidates for the WBCS Main examination. The marks obtained in the WBCS Prelims Exam is not considered for preparing final merit list. WBCS Prelims exam contains 200 objective type questions and total time allotted is 150 Minutes. Each objective type question carries one mark and hence the total marks allotted for the WBCS exam is 200. 

The WBCS Prelims Exam 2020 will have questions from the following topics:
The WBCS Main Exam 2020 will be descriptive comprising six compulsory papers and one optional subject having two papers. Out of the six compulsory papers, General Studies I, General Studies II, Paper of the Constitution of India and Indian Economy including role and functions of the Reserve Bank of India and the Paper of Arithmetic and Test of Reasoning will be objective. Rest of the papers will be descriptive. Each paper, compulsory or optional, will carry 200 marks and will be of 3 hours duration.

Main Examination WBCS 2020

  • This exam consists of 6 (six) compulsory papers and 2(two) optional papers.
  • All the examination papers whether compulsory or optional will carry 200 marks.
  • The exam will be of 3 hours duration.
  • Paper I, Paper-II will be a conventional type.
  • The rest of the Compulsory Paper will have MCQ based examination.
  • The two papers of the Optional Subjects i.e., Paper VII and VIII shall be a conventional type examination.


Nationality:

  • Citizen of India, or
  • A subject of Nepal, or a subject of Bhutan, or a Tibetan refugee who came over to India before the 1st January 1962, with the intention of permanently settling in India, or
  • A person of Indian origin who has migrated from Pakistan, Burma, Sri Lanka, Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania, Zambia, Malawi, Zaire, Ethiopia or Vietnam with the intention of permanently settling in India.


Negative Marking in WBCS 2020 Exam

There shall be negative marking for each incorrect response to multiple-choice questions (MCQ Type). The quantum of negative marking is not mentioned in the official notification and will be notified at the time of paper.

A deduction of 10% from full marks may be made from the total marks secured by a candidate in a particular paper, if they disclose their identity by writing the name, roll no. or by indicating any identifying marks in the answer script.
